Internship Description

The Community Outreach Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Recruit and build an entertainment program to take place on walk day
  • Represent the AHA at health fairs, Lunch-and-Learns, and Heart & Stroke Walk recruitment events
  • Secure in kind donations
  • Share information about our mission and the Walk with employees and volunteers
  • Prep and curate materials for specific health and Heart-Walk-related events
  • Support Business Development Directors at Heart Walk events
  • Assist with recruiting Community Teams; manage communications, stewardship, and logistics
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

This internship requires the breadth and depth of education and experience needed to meet these objectives including:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and pass a background check

  • Effective oral, written, presentation and communication skills

  • Flexible schedule to attend events on weekdays and occasionally weekends

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment - a proactive attitude is essential

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs preferred (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent college graduate

  • Coursework in nonprofit management, communications, public administration, public health, event planning or a related field

  • Experience in community outreach and/or volunteer management

    Hours Desired Summer/Fall (ideal end date Nov. 1, but this is flexible): 15-20 hours per week
