Are you a master gardener? An avid P-patch tiller or home gardener? Proud possessor of a green thumb?
Consider volunteering for this exciting new venture. JFS is working to create a community garden in Kent. Planning and development begin this summer, with perhaps a late summer crop going in the ground. The garden plan will continue to unfold, and of course ongoing maintenance will be needed.
The garden is designed to serve low-income refugee and immigrant community members. It's a wonderful way for clients to grow some of their own food - especially if they come from a background of growing their own food in their home country. Community gardening can also provide newly arrived refugees with the comfort of connection to their own culture and traditions, and serve as a therapeutic outlet for those who are processing trauma.

Description
Jewish Family Service of Seattle began in 1892 with the sole purpose of resettling Eastern European and Sephardic Jewish refugees. Today, JFS supports the adjustment and employment of refugees and immigrants from all religions and cultures worldwide, including Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. With our many social service programs like family mentoring, financial assistance, ESL, citizenship classes, and job placement - we help new Americans become fully integrated members of our community. We encourage volunteers from all backgrounds!
