San Francisco Public Library's Job & Career Center is looking for a volunteer career/life counselor or coach, to offer half hour coaching sessions to job seekers and career changers at the Library.
Location: Main Library, 100 Larkin Street, 4 th floor, study rooms.
Structure: Be at the Main Library one day a week, 1 - 2 hour window of time for one-on-one and by-appointment sessions free of charge to our patrons. Appointments are self-serve and made online with booking software from youcanbookme.com. The new coach will be a part of a team of 3-4 other volunteer coaches. We would especially like someone who is able to work an evening 6 - 7:30 pm shift on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. You may bring projects or reading for down-time as there is about a 25% no show rate.
Expectations: The volunteer career counselor/coach would offer encouragement, guidance on best practices or structure for the job search, possibly "homework" or exercises for self-assessment and/or self-inquiry, and information about free Library & local resources including SFPL eResources, for the practical skill building parts of the job search such as resume writing, interviewing, computer skills, researching companies/industries, group support, etc.
Training or Referral: The Jobs & Careers Center Librarian will train the new volunteer career coach on free SFPL resources, and/or the volunteer career coach can refer clients to the librarian for more job/career resource information as needed.
Commitment: 6 months to one year.
Start: June 2019
