AT this year's 2017 annual Corn Fest the committee will be giving away corn on Saturday August 26 from 11 am to 2 pm. Volunteers will be asked to direct attendees to compost corn for this event. This involves telling people where the compost containers are located. Very simple just need a lot of bodies because hundreds of peopel will be there at once. Please volunteer for a 1-2 hour shift.

Mission Statement

The mission of the DeKalb County Health Department is to promote optimal health for all county residents. Health promotion includes preventative health services, health protection services and health education. Working in partnership with other organizations, programs help individuals, families, and the community prevents, as well as manage, health problems, and risks. DeKalb County Health Department has a strong commitment to delivering quality public health services with competence and skill while respecting the dignity and rights of all individuals.

Description

The DeKalb County Health Department, a department of county government, was founded in 1966. The Health Department offers a full array of public health programs and is certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Health Department has three divisions.


The Health Protection Division goal is to safeguard food and water from contamination. Services include regulation of private sewage systems and potable water. Additional programs include food sanitation, solid waste management, nuisance control and enforcement of tanning and body art regulations. The Emergency Preparedness Program improves county response capacity in the event of a public health emergency through planning activities. The Animal Control Program provides stray dog and rabies control.


The Community Health and Prevention Division provides maternal and child health services such as Childhood Immunizations, the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Supplement Program, the Family Case Management Program for pregnant women and infants and the Family Planning and STD Program. In addition, the Communicable Disease (CD) Program provides services to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. In-Person Counselors provide assistance with enrollment in the new Health Insurance Marketplace and expanded Medicaid implemented as part of the national Affordable Care Act.
