Join Oregon Walks Plans and Projects Committee today!

Benefits of This Volunteer Role: Support Oregon Walk’s policy efforts while gaining organizational experience with a local advocacy non-profit. Develop an understanding of transportation and land use policy development and community engagement while increasing Oregon Walk’s capacity to promote walking conditions that are safe, convenient and attractive for everyone throughout the Portland metropolitan region.

Plans and Projects Committee: Members advocate for pedestrian improvements and infrastructure and represent pedestrian interests on plans and project advisory committees around the region. The committee serves as the voice for Oregon Walks, and decisions on positions taken by Oregon Walks representatives should be discussed by the entire committee.

Meets: 2 nd Monday of the month at 5:30-7:00pm, Oregon Walks HQ

Member Responsibilities: RepresentsOregon Walks on municipal advisory committees for plans and projects such as Transportation System Plans (TSPs), Streetscape Plans, etc. Advocates for pedestrian interests in discussions about the plan or project. Members are familiar with the Getting Around on Foot Action Plan and Oregon Walks’ mission. They update the committee on their project’s progress and positions taken or about to be taken, using the Tracking Sheet and at monthly meetings.

Time Commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours per month

Reports to: Oregon Walks Plans and Projects Committee Chair, Volunteer Coordinator

Supported by: Plans and Projects Board Liaison,Plans and Projects Committee Secretary, Volunteer Coordinator

Qualifications: Understanding of transportation and land use planning and policy fundamentals (or willingness to learn); interest in healthy communities and social equity; excellent written & verbal communication skills; attention to detail.

Technical Skills: Familiarity with Google Drive & Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
