Do you love your neighborhood library? Are you active in your community? Do you love to help others and connect with new people?

Join our Volunteer Community Ambassadors team! NYPL is looking for Spanish-speaking adult volunteers near these libraries to connect with our immigrant communities:

Bronx: Castle Hill, Clason’s Point, Jerome Park

Manhattan: Aguilar, Seward Park, Washington Heights

Staten Island: Port Richmond

Help connect people in your community, friends, and families with our libraries and their free and essential services. As a Community Ambassador, you will work closely with staff from one Library helping us connect primarily with Hispanic families. Ambassador activities include:

  • Going out into the community to share information about Library resources twice a month

  • Visiting with community leaders

  • Distributing library promotional material to local community groups

  • Providing monthly information sessions/library tours

Tell us why you’d like to become an Ambassador and describe any skills/experience that would prove useful in working with immigrants. Training will be provided.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish (written/spoken) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Availability of approximately 4 hours per week, with preferred commitment of one year. Must be flexible, available on some weekends.

  • Enthusiasm for being a role model with a friendly and approachable manner and ability to get along with diverse groups of people.
