Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Peninsula College Fund

The Peninsula College Fund hosts an annual College Success Day for the students that we support who are first-generation college students. Workshops will focus on various college-readiness skills such as networking, study skills, interpersonal skills, and communication. If you would like to participate in one or more of these workshops, rest assured that we will provide all materials and instructions. What's most important is that you are ready and willing to work with these wonderful students!

Also note that there will be a pre-event volunteer training that you must attend or phone-in to on July 26th. You will be able to participate in either the lunchtime session or the evening session. It will last 30 minutes.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower low-income, first generation college students to graduate and obtain a job that aligns with their career goals.

Description

Our comprehensive program includes four key components:

Scholarships: Each student receives a scholarship of $3,000/year for all four years of college. Our goal is to provide scholars with the necessary funds to allow them to attend the college that is the best fit academically, financially, and socially.

One-to-One Mentoring: We carefully match each scholar with one caring adult who provides support, counsel, friendship, networking, and positive role modeling to help each student complete college. We provide our mentors with on-going training and continuously evaluate and improve our mentoring program. Our goals are to help fill the gaps in knowledge about the college experience that first-generation college students often experience, and provide the support and example that enable our scholars to overcome the challenges on the path to graduation.

Summer Internships: We identify and develop paid and volunteer summer internships for our scholars. Our goals are to expose our students to different career opportunities, help them network for post-graduation careers, and earn income to assist in financing their education.

College Success Workshops: We provide all students with targeted, in-depth workshops to give them the tools for college completion and career readiness. Our goal is to build knowledge and peer support to prepare scholars in each year of college.
