Pets for Vets is a national nonprofit that pairs shelter animals with returning Veterans to save lives and to increase the quality of life for those who have served our country. There are many servicemen and women looking for companionship to battle PTSD, agoraphobia, etc. and a canine companion can be beneficial. (See video testimonials on our website www.PetsforVets.com)
A Veteran is identified to receive an animal; an appropriate dog/cat/pet is chosen, adopted, trained and placed with the Veteran. We are more interested in the quality of the placement than quantity of placements. We are looking for experienced trainers who are interested in giving back.
At this time we are in need of trainers, fosters and volunteers in Southwest Indiana.

Mission Statement
Pets for Vets enriches the lives of Veterans by creating a Super Bond with custom trained working animals.
Description
Pets for Vets selects shelter animals for each veteran to match his or her personality. Professional animal trainers rehabilitate the shelter dogs using positive reinforcement and teach the dogs foundational behaviors and skills to fit into the Veteran's lifestyle. Training can include desensitization to wheelchairs or crutches and recognizing and reacting to panic or anxiety disorder behaviors. Each pet will be spayed or neutered, healthy, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Each veteran-pet match is provided with all of the necessary equipment to start their new life together. This program is provided at no cost to the Veteran.
