Every year, we hire 8-12 English speaking teachers as full-time staff at the School of Hope. Our teachers work alongside our Guatemalan staff to ensure we are offering the highest quality education. Teachers are responsible for building curriculum and teaching a wide range of material: English language and grammar, Bible, Art and Art Theory, Music and Music Theory, P.E., Service Learning, Computer, etc. (all taught in English). Teachers must commit to a full 10 month school year and are expected to teach Monday - Friday from 7am - 1pm for elementary school or 2pm-6pm for middle school.
While teaching is the primary responsibility and priority of all of our teachers, they are also expected to be actively involved in other aspects of the organization. Our teachers act as mentors and spiritual leaders for all children in our programs, both in and out of the classroom setting. Many of our teachers are involved in planning weekly Bible studies at the orphanage, creating support groups for our house parents, and assisting in administrative duties.
All of our teachers live in intentional community and share a house located near both the school and orphanage. Teachers work together, eat together, worship together, and become like family during their time with us. The community is modeled after the early church as described in Acts 2:42 and is one of the things that makes this program so special and impactful for everyone involved.

Description
The School of Hope, or Colegio Bilingue Esperanza, is a bilingual school built and owned by Story International. The School of Hope is a private Christian school approved by the Guatemalan Ministry of Education.
The school was built in 2012 with the intention of offering a quality, bilingual education to our kids at Fundación Salvación . Since then, we have grown and are now able to offer our services not only to the kids at the home, but also to low-income families from the local community.
We currently offer grades Pre-K through 9th grade and have plans to expand to the high school level as well. As a completely bilingual school, our staff is made up of both Guatemalans and Americans. Core classes (such as science, history, math, etc.) are taught in Spanish by our Guatemalan staff, while our U.S. staff teaches English language and grammar, P.E., music, bible, art, and service-learning.
