ORGANIZATION: RESULTS

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed, everyday people who use our voices to influence political decisions to help bring an end to poverty. Together, we receive training, support, and inspiration to be effective advocates with our members of Congress and media to influence them to expand access to health, education, and economic opportunity.
RESULTS is starting up a local chapter in Little Rock! Some folks are even attending the International Conference (IC) in DC next weekend!
The IC is starting weekend after next, Saturday July 22nd - Tuesday July 25th, in DC, and there are a few people coming from Arkansas! We'll all be lobbying our members of Congress as an organization together in DC, and Arkansas activists will be meeting with Arkansas members of Congress and their staff. Shem from Little Rock and others will be taking some physical, personalized letters from community members in NWA and Little Rock to members of Congress in their DC offices - Rep. French Hill, Rep. Steve Womack, Sen. John Boozman, and Sen. Tom Cotton.
We're asking folks who care about the end of poverty and ensuring human needs to give Shem a personal letter about the Global Partnership for Education to take with him before she leaves for DC on (probably) Friday July 21st for our International Conference. Arkansas activists will deliver those letters in person during their face-to-face meetings with members of Congress.
Would you be interested in writing a letter that you can get to her in the next week before the conference?
You can write one (to Boozman, Cotton, or Hill), two, or three to all your members.
If you're interested (or anyone else is), check out the attached info on why we need to #fundeducation.

Education is a crucial means of development and ending poverty, disease, malnutrition, preventable child deaths, and climate change (in the Global Poverty RESULTS Webinar Recording for June).
The GPE works exclusively in low income and fragile/conflict-affected countries and has helped put 64 million kids into schools even in conflict situations since 2002.
We want our members of Congress to weigh in with the Trump Administration about making a pledge to the GPE so we want them to make the case for it.
It seems difficult, but global development is one of the most bipartisan issues in Congress - and even the military.
Constituents meeting face-to-face and representing others from the district with letters of support can make all the difference for ensuring all kids can go to school.
Educated girls: --are 3 times less likely to contract HIV --have kids that are 2 times more likely to survive --have fewer kids (4-5 fewer kids per woman with 12 years of school versus 0) --have their incomes go up 20% per each year of school completed after 4th grade --are crucial to reverseing global warming.
This is a crucial year for education!

When Congressional staff were polled, they said letters of support are one of the most powerful ways to influence members on their decisions.
Please contact me if writing personalized, handwritten letters is something you or anyone else in your circles would be interested in writing in the next week, or if you have any questions or thoughts, please. They can even be typed and emailed to Shem and me, or scanned.
Thanks for being a voice against global poverty in Arkansas!

About RESULTS

Location:

1101 15th Street NW, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005, US

Mission Statement

RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together they use their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. With every hour of their time, volunteers multiply their impact through the enormous power of advocacy -- whether it’s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world’s most vulnerable children. Backed by the in-depth research and legislative expertise of staff, RESULTS advocates realize the incredible power they possess to use their voices to change the world.

Description

For over 40 years, RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund have been shining light on critical, effective solutions to poverty. By combining the powerful voices of civic advocates with research and oversight of U.S. anti-poverty efforts at home and abroad, RESULTS has been changing government priorities and people’s lives.

"I saw RESULTS on VolunteerMatch, but I wasn’t sure what advocacy was. Before that, I wasn’t really aware of the way different government policies impacted me. But RESULTS gave me a whole new perspective. I learned that if you want change, first you need to see what members of Congress are doing and build connections." - Yaseer Khanani

"I became an advocate because I wanted to be more involved in an organization that strives to make positive change. I really appreciate how genuine and dedicated everyone is to the RESULTS mission." - Sunjay Menon

"At RESULTS, we advocate for the issues that are close to my heart, like global health, education, and poverty eradication. I get to talk about issues that I witness throughout my professional and personal life. I can effect change by raising my voice." - Shabina Hussein
