VOLUNTEER YOUTH SPORTS COACH ROLE DESCRIPTION

Title of Role

Youth Sports Coach

Goal of Role

To provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of athletes while they learn confidence, individual and team games skills, sportsmanship and fair play.

Tasks and Activities

· Coach an assigned group of children and focus on skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship and fun

· Preside over team activities including all scheduled practices and games

· Adhere to YMCA policies, rules, and objectives

· Responsible for maintaining care of all YMCA Sports equipment

· Lead by example among team parents to support the responsibilities of the referee and league leadership

· Work to establish and improve team unity and spirit

· Ensure equal playing time for all players, regardless the score

Age requirement

18+

Length of commitment

One season - approximately three months

Estimated hours/month

8 hrs/month (1 hr for practice and 1hr for games)

Dress Code

· Team t-shirt for coaches

· Black athletic pants or shorts (depending on the sport)

· Athletic shoes

Qualifications and skills desired

· Desire to work with children

· Possess organizational skills, patience, maturity and dependability

· Sound Character, strong morals, values and personal ethics

· Enthusiasm and a positive spirit with a commitment to equal participation

· Exhibit patience, maturity, and dependability

Desired:

· Current CPR/First Aid certification

Training and other requirements

· Completed YMCA Coaches training

· Completed volunteer packet and background check

· Signed coaches role description and coaches contract prior

to beginning of season

· Coaching is available for one calendar year only
