ORGANIZATION: Hostelling International Washington D.C.

Hostelling International- Washington, DC (HI-DC) is planning its 2017 Peace Conference, organized by and geared toward young adults (ages 20-35).

HI-DC's Peace Conference focuses on themes related to peacebuilding and peace activism. The conference aims at inspiring young adults to promote peace in their communities.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to serve on the Peace Conference Committee. Below are the duties of the committee:

Work as a team with the Conference Planning Committee

  • Serve as a liaison between the Planning Committee, HI-DC and local partners
  • Work with committee members to develop a theme and agenda for the conference
  • Help secure speakers, facilitators, and other local partners
  • Oversee development and implementation of marketing strategy to promote the conference
  • Serve as key event coordinator during the conference

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good leadership skills
    • Ability to work independently, to work under supervision, and to work in a team- based and goal-oriented environment
  • Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas to groups
    • Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information and recommend courses of action to be taken
  • Ability to volunteer on weekday evening (after work hours)

Time Commitment: 1 weekday evening per week from 6:20 pm to 7:45 pm. The Planning Committee will meet weekly from until mid September.

Hostelling International USA (registered as American Youth Hostels, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization that has been serving young travelers for 79 years strong. Founded in 1934 to promote international understanding of the world and its people through hosteling, Hostelling International USA (HI-USA) currently operates a network of over 50 quality hostel facilities across the United States. In addition to being a great place to stay, HI-USA hostels offer a wide range of fun activities, events and educational programs that enrich the travel experience and create opportunities for greater intercultural awareness and understanding.

We are the American affiliate of the Hostelling International (HI), which is overseen by the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF). The global HI network offers more than 4,000 hostels in over 80 countries.
