The Tech Goes Home Summer Celebration is fun for the whole family! Our Tech Goes Home community helps participants gain access to the skills, hardware, and access needed for 21st century success. 75% of our participants have household incomes under $20,000, and 45% have a primary language that is not English.
In prior years we have held a more formal graduation for students at Faneuil Hall. While nice, we received overwhelming feedback from graduates that they would prefer a family-friendly activity. Our Summer Celebration started in 2017 and has been a huge success so far. Our goal is to stay connected with graduates and encourage them to urge family and friends to sign up for free classes.
The event is from 10 AM to 12:30 PM (rain or shine!) and we are seeking volunteers for the 8 AM to 1:00 PM time period. If you cannot do that whole stretch of time, then we have a set-up shift (8 AM to 10:30 AM) and an event shift (9:30 AM to 1:00 PM). We are in a new location this year - Moakley Park - and it's very accessible from the MBTA Red Line (JFK/UMass) and many bus lines. It's also across from Carson Beach so you can enjoy some sun and sand once you are done volunteering.
Our biggest needs are event set-up help, checking in guests, and assistance with our food table. We also have a few more specialized roles:
* people to help lead a fun BINGO game for guests
*someone (5'1" to 5'7") to dress up in a Curious George costume!
* Facepainters / facepainting line managers - beginners welcome
* Craft table helpers - no skills needed, except liking kids!
Bilingual (Spanish, Cape Verde Creole, Haitian Creole) a plus but not required!

Description
The Tech Goes Home (TGH) program is a 12-year-old, national award winning initiative that has successfully provided residents the tools, education and access required for 21st-century skills development. Through partnerships with schools and community institutions, participants develop skills and habits required for smart technology and Internet use. Enrollees receive ?fteen hours of classroom training, a new netbook or mobile device (for $50 co-pay), and, for eligible residents, access to low-cost home Internet.
