JOB SUMMARY
The Newsletter Editor is in charge of collecting and creating content from all internal staff and external stakeholders (corporate sponsors) in order to creat the GeekGirlCon e-newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is inform and create excitement for our GGC attendees as we lead up to the annual Convention (Sept 30 & Oct , 2017). The Newsletter Editor will work closely with the Manager of Editorial Services and the Web Team to create and disseminate the newsletter. They will be responsible for creating the newsletter schedule, which increases in frequency as we get closer to the Con.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages the GeekGirlCon newsletter
Collects and/or creates, as necessary, deliverables for newsletter content and manages the newsletter content schedule.
Creates and sends newsletter to GGC newsletter mailing list
Balances newsletter content to ensure that it is both interesting and informative, and contains content beyond GeekGirlCon news and announcements.
Analyzes newsletter statistics such as open rate and click-throughs, and reports on newsletter impact and success.
REQUIRED Qualifications:
Working knowledge & experience with Mailchimp, or equivalent email campaign software
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including cross-departmental communication.
Ability to manage multiple projects at once, set goals, and prioritize tasks.
PREFERRED Qualifications:
Experience writing and creating newsletters
Awareness of current trends and activities in design and geek culture.
Experience creating newsletters for non-profits
Working knowledge and experience working with our diverse communities, empowerment, diversity and inclusion.
Competence with the Google suite and Basecamp (or similar project management tool)

What It Means to Volunteer as GeekGirlCon Staff
Minimum commitment to this volunteer position is two Convention cycles
With the exception of the Executive Director, GeekGirlCon staff positions are all volunteer, non-paid positions.
Attendance in-person or remotely for staff and departmental meetings is required.
Must maintain prompt and professional correspondence.
Most work is conducted over email and with in-person meetings in the Seattle area.
Between 5 hours a week until August. And then, between 5 and 10 a week from August to the Convention.
The staff is a team of highly dedicated, geeky, and passionate volunteers; it’s a lot of hard work, but an amazing experience with lots of opportunity to help build GeekGirlCon for the future!
