The Thornton Police Department Victim Service Unit is a shared effort between the cities of Thornton and Northglenn. Victim Advocates offer support, assistance, and counseling to victims of crime. Volunteers provide 24-hour crisis intervention and on scene response.
Applicants must be able to:
- Pass full background and criminal background check.
- Pass computer voice stress analyses truth verification.
- Complete 40 hour training in Victim Advocacy and commit to three 12-hour shifts per month, preferably for one year.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. There are no minimum qualifications for this program; however, interest or experience in the fields below are highly preferred:
- Psychology.
- Criminal Justice.
- Social Work.
Hours/ Shifts:
Three 12-hour shifts per month; 5am-5pm or 5pm-5am,preferablyfor one year or longer.

Volunteer Thronton, The City of Thornton's Volunteer Program engages citizens throughout the community by placing them in municipal departments based on volunteers' areas of interest. The City of Thornton has several established volunteer opportunities ranging from long-term placements to one-time events. The City of Thornton strives to be a model volunteer program for the Denver Metro area and beyond.
