ORGANIZATION: Volunteer Thornton

The Thornton Police Department Victim Service Unit is a shared effort between the cities of Thornton and Northglenn. Victim Advocates offer support, assistance, and counseling to victims of crime. Volunteers provide 24-hour crisis intervention and on scene response.

Applicants must be able to:

  • Pass full background and criminal background check.
  • Pass computer voice stress analyses truth verification.
  • Complete 40 hour training in Victim Advocacy and commit to three 12-hour shifts per month, preferably for one year.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. There are no minimum qualifications for this program; however, interest or experience in the fields below are highly preferred:

  • Psychology.
  • Criminal Justice.
  • Social Work.

Hours/ Shifts:

Three 12-hour shifts per month; 5am-5pm or 5pm-5am,preferablyfor one year or longer.

The City of Thornton has several established volunteer opportunities ranging from long-term placements to one-time events. The City of Thornton strives to be a model volunteer program for the Denver Metro area and beyond.
