Take Spanish classes in the morning then volunteer with disadvantaged children at an after-school program in the afternoon.
There are 40+ children at the program every afternoon, ranging in age from 5 to 12.
As a volunteer you will assist the full-time Guatemalan staff (2-3 typically) with activities like playing games, arts and crafts, homework, sports, basic writing and reading, and generally serving as a caring presence.
Most volunteers live with local Guatemalan host families. You have your own room and 3 meals per day prpvided by the family.
The program runs year-round. We meet you at the airport in Guatemala, take you to Quetzeltenango, provide an orientation, and are available 24 hours for emergencies.
