Mission Statement

CHALLENGE - Mount Vernon children are falling behind at an alarming and accelerating rate as they progress through the school system’s various milestones. The outlook for them is bleak unless we successfully intervene and interrupt this downward spiral. Evidence, including state standardized test scores, suggests they are not prepared for participation in our global economy, especially regarding STEM-based subject matter. The results are and will continue be a community with higher than average poverty, unemployment and crime. MISSION - Our mission is to introduce the marvels of science to children on a systematic, frequent and regularly scheduled basis, enabling them to experience, explore and personalize the resulting discoveries. Science centers embedded in the community, embraced by the school system and freely available to children, parents and teachers alike have proven to be successful interveners needed in the metropolitan areas around the country.

Description

VISION- Our vision of success includes directly impacting the lives of the 9,000 students attending public school in Mount Vernoneach year with a state-of-the-art facility that is embraced by current and succeeding generations of students, parents, the school system and the surrounding corporate community. Our facility will impact academic outcomes and influence career choices for years to come, further validating the community value and impact of such well-thought-out initiatives for urban areas.
