The Catalina Film Institute is looking for volunteers who are well-organized and detail oriented for our film festival this fall. Applicants should be good at coordinating groups, amiable and polite on the phone, and have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. Some of your duties may include creating itineraries for our VIP talent, organizing and distributing VIP welcome packages, and overseeing on-island transportation for guests and volunteers. We need someone who can remain calm in potentially stressful situations and will act professionally in front of well-known industry individuals. This position requires you to work approximately 20 to 25 hours per week, as well as travel to Catalina Island during the festival.

The festival will launch in Long Beach September 25th-26th and will continue on Catalina Island on September 27th-28th, and back to Long Beach on September 29th.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the film festival team during festival prep.
  • Create spreadsheets of lodging assignments for staff.
  • Obtain list of names of VIP's from Talent Coordinator, organize and book rooms accordingly.
  • Secure discount rates from hotels.
  • Utilizing and building relations with hotels.
  • Assist with arranging transportation for VIP's, to and from the island.

The Catalina Film Festival is a non-profit Public Benefit Corporation comprised of industry professional that love film and the creative process (and people) involved with making it happen. Our platform is based on education, art and entertainment, and supporting the local charities and economic stimulus of Catalina during the off-season months. Through amazing independent film screening and inspiring events, the festival present a wide spectrum of film making: feature film, documentaries, screenplays, animation, short films, horror, student work, and also focuses on a separate series of films within the festival that are dedicated to conservation, honoring those filmmakers dedicated to nurturing their goal of protecting, restoring, and experience the power of nature all over the planet.

Description

Catalina Film Festival, an annual celebration of film on the only California Coast resort island, features more than 90 films, nightly events and entertainment. From Charlie Chaplin to Marilyn Monroe, celebrities and filmmakers have flocked to Catalina for inspiration. Clear blue water and coastal breezes provide the perfect backdrop for unparalleled premieres, yacht and mansion parties, industry networking and discovering everything that the island has to offer- just 22 miles off the coast of Los Angeles.
Films are screened at multiple venues around the island, including the iconic, art deco, 1,200-seat Avalon Theatre- the world’s first sound theatre. Catalina Film Festival is a competitive festival with awards in up to 10 categories, including the prestigious Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation "Great Communicator" Award, Charlie Chaplin ICON Award, and Stanley Kramer "Social Artist" Award.
