Expedition Dinosaur
Real dinosaurs, right now, at the Wellington Green Mall!

The Palm Beach Museum of Natural History is in need of volunteers at our location in the Mall at Wellington Green. We are specifically seeking those with a retail background who can assist our museum store staff, and those with a background in paleontology, archaeology, or related sciences who can serve as exhibit docents.

Those who are interested should complete a volunteer application which may be obtained via our website at www.pbmnh.org (see Volunteer tab), by emailing rpascucci@pbmnh.org, or calling (561) 729-4246. Applications may also be obtained in person at the museum. We are located in the mall on the first floor in space #172. The museum is open 12:00 pm to 7:30 pm Monday to Saturday, and 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday.

Special events such as Family Hour at the Museum and evening lectures are held on selected mornings at 10 am or evenings at 7:30 pm. Volunteers to assist with Family Hours should have experience and aptitude for working with children.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Palm Beach Museum of Natural History (PBMNH) is to collect, research, interpret, and explain all aspects of our natural world, the evolution of life, and the development of human cultures. The Museum's primary focus is on, but not limited to, the archaeology and natural history of southern Florida, to include its place within the context of the wider Caribbean region. A key goal of the Museum is the education of the public through the presentation of exhibits, lectures, classes, and hands-on learning experiences.

Description

The Museum was formed by a group of paleontologists, archaeologists, science educators, and museum professionals dedicated to the establishment of a premier regional center for the study and public presentation of the natural history and archaeology of Florida and the Caribbean. The Board of Trustees is the direct governing body of the Museum. The daily operation of the Museum is the responsibility of the executive Committee and Museum Director as specified within the Bylaws. A Founders Board provides those individuals with a voice in the Museum's future and limited over-site powers.

Research has been ongoing since 2005 with a focus on field paleontology, primarily on sites in the American west, and the curation of the South Florida Archaeological Collection. These efforts have resulted in a significant increase in the Museum's collections and the publication of several scientific papers with additional work now in preparation by the Museum's staff. In addition, the Museum has either directly offered, or sponsored through its affiliates, a number of public workshops and lectures. The Museum currently maintains several traveling exhibits available for rent to other institutions or occasionally placed free of charge as part of the Museum's public service mission.
