ORGANIZATION: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

BGCLAH is looking for volunteers to assist in our Learning Centers. Volunteering focus will be on academic support through homework, subject-specific tutoring, and our college pathways program "College Bound". Volunteers will work with High School, Middle School, and primarily Elementary School.

College Bound is our highly successful college pathway support program available to all members, grades 4 through 12. Since we implemented the program, we have raised the graduation rate of our members from less than 50% in 2002 to 98% in 2016, with 94% of those graduates going to a four-year university or two-year college

Mission Statement

True to its mission since 1937, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor helps young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. We achieve this through a commitment to quality programs and services in an environment that is safe, nurturing and inspiring.

Description

BGCLAH offers assistance to youth, specifically low-income youth. We offer daily programming which includes Academics (tutoring), Athletics (sports leagues, general sports), Arts, STEM, Music, Dance, and College Preparation. We have needs in all program areas in which outreaching for consistent volunteers are vital for our organization to run since our members thrive off of 1-on-1 assistance. We also have a need for our Food Distribution Program (Weekend Wellness) which hosts a once a month distribution for our families and the community facing food insecurity. We need volunteers for this program since it requires a lot more labor and the more hands on deck, the more beneficial it is for our staff and program to run.
