Volunteer Conversation Class Coach

Objective

To assist our English language learners looking for extra help with conversation skills through a creative and engaging weekly session at the Adult Learning Center (3501 N Charles St)

Qualifications and Requirements

  • English language teaching/tutoring preferred (not mandatory)
  • Good communication skills
  • Patience,compassion, and s e n s i t i v i t y to diverse populations
  • Commitment to enhancing the lives and future of Baltimore residents

Time Commitment

  • Weekly afternoon session (schedule can be decided between prospective volunteer and Volunteer Coordinator)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work under supervision of Volunteer Coordinator
  • Design lesson plans for weekly conversation class (can be fun and laid back!)
  • Work with our students every week to help them increase their conversation fluency in English
  • Report any issues/problems to ALC Volunteer Coordinator

Current initiatives include bringing volunteer and community resources into public schools, youth development and leadership, ESOL service coordination, housing and neighborhood revitalization, and public safety. Strong City employs a strategy of brokering partnerships, resources and services within the community as opposed to creating new services. With an emphasis on building social capital, We operates all of our programs by galvanizing a large volunteer base within its own community.
