ORGANIZATION: Pima Community College Adult Basic Education for College and Career

Responsibilities:

  • Be a classroom assistant for an English language learner who is in a wheelchair and needs assistance with writing
  • Write out assignments during class, help with preparing to do homework

Training/Support:

  • Orientation, training and ongoing support from the Volunteer Coordinator and supervising instructor.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral communication skills and command of the English language.
  • Some experience and understanding of working with adults with disabilities
  • High degree of initiative and creativity.
  • Good person-to-person skills.
  • Age 18 or older.

Commitment:

  • 6 month commitment
  • During class time Tuesdays and Thursdays

Pima College Adult Basic Education for College and Career (ABECC) Mission: We meet every adult learner where they are, honor their strengths and support them to their goals.

We offer free, non-credit high school equivalency classes, English language classes, career contextualized instruction, and citizenship preparation classes.

Volunteers are essential to fulfilling our mission and we welcome inquiries from community members who want to help the thousands of adult students we serve each year.
