ORGANIZATION: Arlington Public Library System

Purpose/objective: Library staff will train volunteers on how to lead interactive storytimes for preschoolers. We will match volunteers with local childcare centers and provide a storytime kit filled with books and storytime puppets as well as a storytime lesson plan to follow. The library wants to encourage a love of reading in our youngest patrons and will partner with childcare centers to provide an exciting storytime experience.

Location: Arlington childcare centers

Key responsibilities: Delivering prepared storytimes on a bi-weekly basis to your assigned childcare center.

Qualifications: Background check; Reliable transportation; Ability to read to children. Must be 16 or older to participate

Time commitment: Volunteers will lead storytimes at their centers on a bi-weekly basis, and all volunteers must make a one semester commitment to participate. If a volunteer would like to lead weekly storytimes, that can be arranged as well. Volunteers will also need to attend a storytime workshop.

Fall Storytime Workshop: (only need to attend one workshop)

Tuesday, August 22, 7:00-8:30 pm at Central Express

Saturday, August 25, 10:30am-12:00 pm at Central Express

Fall semester: September 5-November 17

Spring Storytime Training: (only need to attend one workshop)

Tuesday, January 16, 7:00-8:30 pm at Central Express

Saturday, January 20, 10:30am-12:00 pm

Spring semester: January 22-April 27

Training/support provided: One workshop required, see above dates
