ORGANIZATION: American Cancer Society

  • 1 person is interested

We are looking for volunteers with leadership qualities, a desire to change the world and a passionate dislike of cancer. We’re looking for long term, hands on, rock star volunteers who want more than a 1 day gig passing out water to runners. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is planned by an Event Committee of volunteers from the community where the event is held. We invest in our volunteers through group training and 1-on-1 coaching from an American Cancer Society staff member. As the single largest fundraising event in the world, you get to be part of something pretty spectacular. No experience necessary, however, a go-getter attitude is essential!

Entertainment LEAD LEADER:

The entertainment lead oversees all of the entertainment takes place during the Making Strides of Silicon Valley walk, which may include choosing the type of entertainment and when it occurs.

Individuals in this role are creative, organized, and know what it takes to have a good time. Additionally, individuals in this role are comfortable with and willing to cultivate relationships with various groups and organizations in the community that are willing to contribute to and participate in the excitement of the Making Strides of Silicon Valley walk.

SPECIFIC TASKS INCLUDE:

- Collaborate with event lead and logistics lead regarding schedule of events and activities to plan and implement Making Strides of Silicon event activities

- Meet monthly or bi-monthly with the experience lead to discuss goals and progress

So...at this point you may be wondering...WHAT IS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer?

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer. Each event is a noncompetitive 3 mile walk that brings people together to make a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. The events raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable.

From the opening ceremony to the post-walk entertainment, a Making Strides event is a celebration of survivors and opportunity to remember loved-ones lost. It's a day that shouldn't be missed and won't be forgot

Commitment requires regular check ins with your team lead and/or ACS staff member (in person, over the phone or via email) during Strides Season (July - October.. However we really ramp up in August!) and 2-3 hours a week of additional volunteer efforts. Schedule of work is up to you. For more information on Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and/or the American Cancer Society, please visit www.makingstrideswalk.org or www.cancer.org

Sound like something you'd be great at?? Perhaps you'd only like a bite-size piece of this role?? Perhaps you & a family member or a friend interested in working on this together?? We would LOVE to chat & truly look forward to working with you to create a world without cancer!!!!
