PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Title: Kitchen Cleaning Assistant

Supervisor: Volunteer Coordinator

Hours and Times: Weekly or bimonthly, Fridays (11am-12pm)

Description:

Almost Home is seeking individuals or groups to help us periodically clean our kitchen. While we constantly care for the kitchen space, we need an extra set of hands this summer to help maintain the space when our cooks are out for the weekend. The volunteer opportunity is a good way to get to know our agency first hand and to see our service in action. Volunteers who help clean our space directly impact the quality of our member’s lives by maintaining the beauty of their shared home.

The opportunity is available on Fridays throughout the summer on a weekly, bimonthly, or "when available" basis. Although the opportunity works best on a predictable schedule, Volunteers who cannot commit to a reoccurring schedule are welcome to participate.

Our Kitchen:

Our kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner members and their children daily. On average, our cooks create meals for 15 women and 15 children on each day, and feed for over 50 women and 50 children every year. Meals are prepared in house from the materials we have on hand, and closely follow Missouri’s food and health regulations.

Tasks:

• Clean stoves tops and ovens
• Mop the floor
• Clean shelves and surfaces
• Clean floorboards
• Wash and sterilize dishes

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older, or no younger than 16 when accompanied by a guardian
• Ability to life up to 10 lbs.
• Ability to work with and respect confidential information
• Able to physically scrub, clean, and bend in a kitchen space
