College Essay Coaching: Help a high school student to write their college essay! (Hybrid)

College Essay Coaching

Come join us for one of our most popular volunteer experiences! College Essay Coaches will receive essay writing training and then work with a high school senior one-on-one for five weeks to help a student develop, write, and edit their college essays. ALL prospective volunteers should fill out our sign-up form at https://forms.gle/kjJUKnbVbbckW9tb6

College essays are a critical part of the college application process and can make a tremendous difference in the student's ability to submit top-notch applications. We are looking for volunteers who have a strong writing background, knowledge, or previous experience in college essay writing and are enthusiastic about building a one-on-one relationship with one of our high school seniors. All volunteers will need to be based in the USA!

Please complete the form before EOD, on Monday, September 2nd.

Time Commitment:

- Attend a Virtual College Application Training (Mandatory).
Date: Tuesday, Sept 17th from 5 pm - 7:00 pm pst

Interested volunteers should sign up for the one group that best fits their schedule:

  • Group A (In-person at the FG office: 594 Howard Street, Suite 301 San Francisco, CA 94105) on Tuesdays: Sept 24th, Oct 1st, Oct 8th, Oct 15th, and Oct 22nd from 5:30 - 7:30 pm pst.

    OR

  • Group B (Virtual over Zoom) on Wednesdays: Sept 25th, Oct 2nd, Oct 9th, Oct 16th, and Oct 23rd from 5:30 - 7:30 pm pst.

For coaches to fully support our students with personal college essays, commitment to all of the sessions in your group (group A or B) is required. Deadline to apply: Sep 2nd, 2024

Mission Statement

First Graduate's mission is to help students finish high school and become the first in their families to graduate from college ready to pursue meaningful careers. We make a 10-12 year commitment to students, starting the summer after sixth grade through college graduation.

Description

First Graduate supports students through a comprehensive set of services, including academic instruction, tutoring and support during an intensive summer program and after school during the academic school year. The program also offers high school and college counseling, mentoring with a college graduate, family engagement activities, career exploration activities, and college scholarships.
