You can join our mission to educate and support our community
about mental health conditions by becoming a part of NAMI Gulf
Coast’s Ending the Silence team. Our Ending the Silence team is
made up of a program leaders and young individuals living with a
mental illness.
Become a program leader and share your story of your personal experiences with mental health
challenges to help those who are living with a mental illness know
that they are not alone and offer hope for recovery. By telling your
story, you can make a difference for yourself and others living with a
mental illness by sharing your perspective and providing
encouragement and support.
If you have a mental health condition, what has helped you cope? What has been challenging? What has
given you hope? Where did you go to find support? Because of your experiences, you may know things that other people want to know.
Most importantly, that they are not alone.

Mission Statement
It is the mission of NAMI Gulf Coast to provide support, education, and service advocacy for families and individuals affected by mental illness. Eliminating the stigma of mental illness is our primary goal, and our hope is that one day mental illness will be treated with the same compassion and understanding as any other illness.
Description
In 1988, Carolyn Karbowski founded NAMI Gulf Coast. This was a result of a two-year journey after her son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and she discovered there were few services, no educational programs and no support for families struggling with mental illness. Determined to make a much-needed change, Carolyn began to organize services that would benefit those affected by mental illness. NAMI Gulf Coast has evolved from a volunteer-run, grass roots organization to a vibrant education and support agency that is known throughout the state of Texas as one of its leading NAMI affiliates.
Today, we continue to offer our local communities with mental health education programs. The programs we currently offer are Ending the Silence, Partnerships (PTR), Family & Friends (F&F), and AS+K? About Suicide. You can learn more about each of these programs on our website. We also provide support for families and individuals affected by mental illness through our monthly support groups, newsletter, HelpLine, and community events. Lastly, we provide advocacy at the local, state, and national level to work for legislation and funding to ensure quality care for people living with mental illness.
