The Mercer Island Farmers Market (MIFM) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization connecting local residents with Washington State farmers and producers each Sunday from June to October. Serving Mercer Island and surrounding communities since 2008, the MIFM is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and utilizes contractor staff with community volunteers for Market operations. While the Market itself has a six month season, the Board functions 12 months a year as there is considerable planning and preparation that occurs behind the scenes in the off-season.
The MIFM Board is seeking a qualified Board member to join us now as an observer for the balance of 2017 with full membership beginning in 2018. Our ideal candidate would be someone who is a resident of Mercer Island, enjoys patronizing the Market, and has professional management skills from business and/or community leadership experience. Previous non-profit Board experience is a plus as is a true passion for food and food production.
Board members we recruit today should be capable of serving as an officer (President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer) during future periods and are expected to serve on at least one Board committee. With that in mind, we'd welcome a mature individual who can contribute at least 3 hours per month on average to MIFM business, including attending monthly Board meetings. The Board meets the third Tuesday every month from 6 - 8 pm in downtown Mercer Island.
