Minds Matter of Los Angeles provides a rigorous college prep and academic program for bright, motivated high school students from low-income families earning less than $25,000 per year.
One of the key components of the Minds Matter program is sending our Sophomore and Junior students to summer programs at various colleges across the country so that they can experience a college environment first hand. As Summer Program Lead, you will be responsible for managing the summer program application process for a group of ~10 sophomore student/mentor teams.
The two main aspects of this role are 1) to keep communications and processes running smoothly between the students and the summer programs and 2) to place every student in a summer program that aligns with the values of Minds Matter while balancing costs.
On the student side, they will help guide the 10 student/mentor teams with any questions on the application process. There are a total of 2 Leads with 20 Sophomores. They work closely with the team leads and Program Directors to ensure applications and financial aid are completed on time. On the summer program side, they manage the flow of information from the summer programs and the National office to help process applications.
Internally, the Summer Program Leads manage all acceptances, tuition costs, financial aid, and budget information to work with the Executive team to place students at their Summer Programs. They also maintain our databases for each student (where they applied, were accepted or were rejected, financial aid awarded, program dates, etc.)
The role also requires attendance in session almost every week until all placements have been made (generally from January to May). Commitment is approximately 3 hours per week but can vary depending on the time of the year. Organization and attention to detail are valuable qualities for this role
