English Language Tutor - Entrepreneurship Program for Survivors of Domestic Violence

ORGANIZATION: FREEFROM

  • 2 people are interested

Hi Everyone,

FreeFrom’s mission is to make safety affordable for survivors of violence and their families. One way we do this is through our small business incubator that helps survivors either expand their existing business or start a new business from scratch. We are using entrepreneurship as a tool to create economic justice for survivors who are often unable to enter the traditional workforce.

About 25% of our entrepreneurs speak a language other than English as their primary language. Additionally, these entrepreneurs have expressed desire to acquire and practice English. Most of them attempted to go to English school but faced many challenges like, being single parents, living in a shelter, working odd hours, feeling unsafe, and transportation issues that forced them to stop attending. Learning how to write and speak English will be extremely beneficial as our entrepreneurs develop and sustain their businesses.

We are looking for the following tutors who can dedicate at least 1hr per week to work 1-on-1 with our entrepreneurs from here until December.

  • 1 tutor who preferably is also a fluent or native Spanish-Speaker
  • 1 tutor who preferably is also a fluent or native Amharic-Speaker

If you are interested, please respond to this post confirming your availability and with a short description of yourself/why you are interested in this volunteer position.
