Bridge Bread needs volunteers at our retail location on exciting Cherokee Street. We have purchased the historic Vandora Theater building previously occupied by Black Bear Bakery and we will be relocating the bakery to this location and expanding offerings to become a bakery café.
You will work a weekly shift of 2-4 hours Tuedays through Sundays.
Ring up sales of bread and rolls made by our formerly homeless Bakers and engage with the community in discussion of poverty, homelessness and social justice.
About Bridge Bread Bakery
2639 Cherokee Street, Saint Louis, MO 63118, US
Bridge Bread is a social enterprise designed to provide job opportunities for people experiencing homelessness or those who are housing insecure. The goal of the program is to help the disadvantaged engage in a financially rewarding effort that enhances self-worth, promotes dignity and enables them to help themselves.
Bridge Bread seeks to empower people who have experienced homelessness to rebuild their lives with meaningful employment.
Our own Bakery is a highly successful social enterprise that demonstrates that people who have experienced homelessness are eager to work hard and can be valuable employees that earn decent wages. We are a hand up, not a handout to our Bakers. This promotes their self worth and accounts for our success rate.
We want to grow our social enterprise to employ more Bakers making and selling more products through more channels so we can provide further opportunities in all areas of a small business.
Working with social work and business school departments at local universities and with progressive businesses, we intend to find ways to replicate this success in for-profit businesses in many additional kinds of business.
We'll work with your schedule.
