RBSP BB Removal
Removing blackberries!

We are a group of diverse people looking for folks to help with native habitat restoration areas at the park. Our work party will focus on maintenance of habitat restoration areas. We are mainly clearing invasive species like scotch broom and blackberry wherever its starting to pop up again. You can also learn about the olla (clay pot) watering system used to feed the plants growing in sandy soils.

Who can volunteer: Folks of all ages who are interested in habitat restoration, folks who visit the park and are interested in giving back, high-schoolers who are looking for volunteer hours to fulfill their school community service hours (be sure to bring your short term community service form so we can sign it), folks wanting to learn how to successfully grow native plants, anyone looking for a fun way to spend time outdoors. You can let us know you're coming by responding through this webpage.

Your help is greatly appreciated as it takes many willing hands.

We provide snacks, water, and tools. All you have to do is wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. There will be walking on uneven slopes, so be sure to wear closed-toed, water-proof shoes. Meet us near the rest rooms at the lower parking lot where you can sign in and pick up your tools for the day. You are welcome to bring your own gloves and tools, if you wish. Come check out the restoration projects and help us restore nearshore habitat at the park. Not to mention that you get to meet other wonderful community volunteers!

This project is made possible by the City of Shoreline through their support and funding.

The Friends of Richmond Beach Saltwater Park look forward to working with you - see you soon!

Mission Statement

The City of Shoreline has been restoring and preserving the natural landscape of the beautiful Richmond Beach Saltwater Park through partnership with the University of Washington Restoration Ecology Network Program, King Conservation District, and Friends of the park. Come rain or shine, volunteer parties are held on a regular basis from February through October each year to plant native species, install low-cost irrigation vessels, and control invasive species, Regular maintenance is done in restored areas to make sure invasives don’t return and to keep the irrigation vessels full of water. There is truly nothing like the camaraderie of working together to transform the park to its full beauty. We hope that you join us in this rewarding way to give to the community while enjoying the amazing vistas of the mountains and Puget Sound. We appreciate your help!

Description

Richmond Beach Salt Water Park was once a gravel mine in the early 1900s, this area was later designated as a public park. In partnership with the City of Shoreline Parks Department and King Conservation District, we started on our goal to bring back the native nearshore plant community for its innate beauty and the habitat it provides for wildlife.
