ORGANIZATION: Altus Hospice Care of Beaumont

  • 19 people are interested

Altus Hospice in Beaumont is seeking direct patient care volunteers to provide emotional support, companionship, active listening and social stimulation to patients and their families.

Hospice patients have been diagnosed with a terminal illness that will complete their lives within an average of 6 months as the disease runs its natural course.

Volunteer visits consist mainly of companionship where you will be doing a lot of listening to patients tell you about their lives. There will also be times where you will be doing the talking to socially stimulate them. Other activities include listening to music with them, watching TV/movies with them, writing letters for them, dialing out phone calls for them, practical/domestic support such as organinizing their room, folding laundry and lite dishes. Plus other misc. activities. There also times where the families need respite. During these respite visits you would be relieving the family or caregiver(s) for an hour or two so they can take a break from caring for the patient.

Being a volunteer for a hospice patient is an indescribable special and great feeling. If you are looking to give back to people in your community in a caring, compassionate and dignifying way, than this is the volunteer opportunity for you. You will walk away from each visit knowing you were able to make an individualized special difference in the last days/months of your patient's life.

I hope to hear from you soon.
