If you enjoy working in an office environment that is organized and friendly, come join our team of office volunteers! Our caring and dedicated office volunteers provide front desk coverage and support for the Office Manager, Office Assistant, and other Hospice SLO County Staff.
Office volunteers must interview with office staff and complete a livescan before volunteering in the office. After the potential volunteer’s livescan clears, Hospice SLO County office staff will schedule a time to train the new office volunteer. Office volunteers are not required to attend our 30-hour In-Home volunteer training (though it is encouraged!).
Hospice SLO County aims to have the front office covered by volunteers in two to four hour increments from 9:00 am-4:30 pm every day. You only need to give a couple hours a week!
How you can help
Primary duties include answering the telephones and greeting clients. We also appreciate having the front desk covered while the Office Manager and or Office Assistant take their lunch breaks or attend meetings. Volunteers may also be asked to assist with smaller clerical projects, such as mailing letters, filing, or making copies.
Additional duties vary depending on the interests and skills of each volunteer. There are tasks like writing acknowledgements to donors, creating counseling folders, data entry, doing research on the internet, etc. Office volunteers may have the opportunity to assist staff members in other departments when they need support as well. While office volunteers do not need to have prior office experience, they must be comfortable learning how to use the phone system and the computer. They are also expected to uphold confidentiality.
