Saturday Academy Event Volunteer-Beaverton City Library Family Resource Fair

Position Summary: Volunteer would attend the Beaverton City Library Family Resource Fair on October 21st 2017 from 10am-2pm. Beaverton City Library Family Resource Fair is hosting families in a educational resources event. Volunteers would attend to Saturday Academy's table, explain our services and programs, and answer questions. Volunteers would be trained on Saturday Academy's various programs and provided a 'Frequently Asked Questions' sheet prior to the event. Volunteers are required to provide their own transportation to and from the event.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and market Saturday Academy to event attendees
  • Pass out marketing materials to event attendees
  • If applicable, help facilitate small activity for kids
  • Aid in set-up and take-down

Qualifications:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Refined active listening skills
  • Comfortable speaking to people and or crowds
  • A positive attitude

Saturday Academy strives to engage all motivated young people, including those from under-represented communities, in hands-on, in-depth learning by connecting them to community experts as educators and mentors.

Description

The mission of Saturday Academy is to engage children through in-depth learning so they may become life-long learners. We provide hands-on classes and camps, afterschool programs, accelerated learning programs for talented and gifted students, and a high school apprenticeship program in science and engineering (ASE). Since it was founded in 1983, SA has served over 165,000 students and currently serves approximately 6,000 students each year. SA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Portland (UP). Instructors need to be experts in their fields so that children see adults as guides to learning and careers.
