ORGANIZATION: YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley

Purpose: Help empower community members, including Spanish-English speaking community members, to participate in the YWCA’s mission, to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all, by promoting and facilitating volunteer engagement opportunities and experiences throughout the YWCA Silicon Valley.

Major Responsibilities:

  • As a valued member of the Volunteer Engagement Team, proactively participate in the planning, development, coordination and/or execution of projects and tasks related to one or more of the following, based on organizational needs and personal preferences: Applicants, New Volunteer Placements; Prospective Volunteers; Active Volunteers; Trainees; Volunteer Farewells; Trainings; Volunteer Supervisor Support; Professional Growth & Development; Budgeting, Business/Strategic Planning, Communication, Community Networking; Opportunities Promotion; Files Administration & Audits; Office Organization; Policies/Procedures/Practices; Volunteer Position Descriptions; Online Postings; Promotional Materials/Branding; Supplies/Equipment; Technology; Forms; Data Coordination; Video-Recording; Appreciation and Recognition; Volunteer Activity/Hours Tracking; Reports; Volunteer Open Houses; Volunteer Selection/Interviews; Social Media; Website and more.
  • Work in compliance with all legal requirements, and organizational and departmental policies, procedures and standards, including maintaining confidentiality around Volunteers, services’ participants, and agency business.

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluent in Spanish and English with good oral, reading and written communication skills. Knowledge and understanding of diverse Latino/a cultures.
  • Pleasant, positive and outgoing personality with the ability to connect with and engage community members, inspiring them to interact and participate.
  • A sense of humor and a flexible nature. The ability to respond effectively to changing group environments and dynamics.
  • Detail-oriented, thorough, organized and reliable.
  • Ability to execute office administrative tasks, and use a PC with an intermediate level of skills in Word, Excel, Outlook (e-mail) and/or the Internet.
  • Interest in and a commitment to, continuous learning about the engagement of the community as Volunteers in the work of the YWCA Silicon Valley.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, be open to feedback, and seek guidance, direction and input from others.
  • Ability to practice cultural humility, i.e. maintain an interpersonal approach that is other-oriented in relation to aspects of cultural identity that are most important to the person. Ability to work with/support individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge, skills and abilities to better connect with individuals and communities, and to gaining more insight into personal biases and identities. This includes, and is not limited to, treating all people with respect and dignity, recognizing and appreciating cultural differences, and working to interact with greater cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to be non-judgmental, open, honest and calm, and maintain professional boundaries.

Training & Other Requirements:

  • Completion of training /orientation sessions to develop personal comfort level in activities related to the engagement of the community as Volunteers in the work of the YWCA Silicon Valley.
  • Clearance on a background check, including DOJ & FBI fingerprinting.
  • Completion of all policies and procedures documentation.

Time Commitment: Minimum of 75 hours of service.

Volunteer 3 hours or more each week, on a mutually convenient schedule, from the following options:

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays; 10:00am - 1:00pm and/or 1:30pm - 4:30pm
