We have a Redwood Empire Food Bank truck (who we have partnered with) drop off food for about 200 families, which we then set everything up in an assembly line and start making grocery bags. We try to have about 50+ bags done by 10:30-11am. We then start handing the grocery bags out. There are no requirements or paperwork needed to be filled out for the people of our community, it is absolutely free!
We have had 3 successful Mondays at our Petaluma site and our first run for Rohnert Park as well, meaning all grocery bags are given away and all of our patients and non-patients were very excited and grateful that this is happening at our health centers.
With your help we feel we can make this run even better than what it has been and our communities in Petaluma and Rohnert Park would be very appreciative. We are looking to have 5-10 volunteers in each location (Petaluma and Rohnert Park), from 9:30am to 12:30pm every Monday.

Description
Work in the classroom under the direction of the teacher helping students with reading and/or math. This requires a commitment of 1 hr./wk for a school semester. Volunteers must be fingerprinted.
The Literacy Connection Academic Mentor program has just completed 12 years of recruiting, training, and preparing volunteers to go into the classrooms of Sonoma County K-12 schools. This year 250 volunteers worked in 30 different schools helping students in the regular classroom and in the after-school programs. One-on-one help is sometimes the only way that students who are also learning English as a second language can do their work. Sometimes the student has experienced so much failure in his school life that he is reluctant to participate in class activities. He has lost self esteem. Volunteer helpers give that student a no-risk opportunity to experience success - even one word at a time.
