The University of Cincinnati has partnered with AmeriCorps at NEOMED to develop Health Professions Affinity Community (HPAC) Specialists for the 2017-18 academic year. This is a rewarding opportunity for college students, graduates taking a gap year before applying to professional school, and others seeking to make a difference in their community.
The Corps for Rural Success and Health AmeriCorps members commit to an 11-month service year from August 15, 2017 through July 15, 2018. Full time members complete 1,700 service hours (40 hours per week).
AmeriCorps members serve students ranging from middle school through early college years. They manage and/or create HPAC programs with designated schools and community organizations and follow the IDEAS model:
I - identify a health concern in your community
D - design a program/project to bring awareness to the health concern
E - enact a program within the community
A - assess the effectiveness of your project
S - share the results of your project at NEOMED during Scholar's Day
AmeriCorps members receive:
- travel reimbursement
- a stipend of $12,530 distributed in monthly installments
-a Segal Education Award equivalent to the maximum amount of the Pell Grant upon completion of their service hours - up to $5,730. The education award may be used towards educational expenses or current/future student loans
- gain training and professional development skills including paid training to become a Certified Community Health Worker through the Ohio Board of Nursing and grant writing skills.
