Summer Street Recycling
GrowNYC's Green Team educating the public on proper recycling!

GrowNYC is going to be greening up the Summer Streets event for 3 weekends, August 5th, 12th, and 19th, and we need our excellent team of volunteers to help us on August 19th with recycling bin monitoring and education at our GrowNYC Zero Waste Programs table.

There will be rock climbing, zip lines, free bike rentals, and lots of free giveaways with a 7 mile stretch of car-free Park Ave open to bikes, skates, and joggers. Volunteers can choose between 2 shifts, 7:00am-10:30am, or 10:00am-1:30pm.

Bring a friend, bring your roller skates, and come enjoy the summer with us!

*Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate with GrowNYC*

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help New Yorkers increase the amount of recyclables diverted from the waste stream by providing education and resources for recycling, waste prevention, materials reuse and composting. We work intensively on a community-by-community basis in all five boroughs, offering free building waste audits and trainings for tenants, landlords and supers. We are also working to provide special waste collections such as textiles, electronics and compost in our targeted areas, as well as central locations citywide.

Description

GrowNYC's Zero Waste Programs is working to improve recycling participation in New York City. Staff members conduct community by community grassroots outreach to help residential buildings develop better recycling systems and provide additional opportunities to recycle materials not currently accepted in the city's curbside program.
