Do you have a friendly, well-mannered dog or pet you want to share with others?
Do you have a passion for supporting people receiving services at YAI?
We are seeking volunteers to train their pets to facilitate Animal-Assisted Activities in our Queens day programs.
After completing training with The Good Dog Foundation or other approved training organization, volunteers and their pets will visit our Queens day programs to assist individuals and groups in skill-building activities to further entry into the community. With the support of program staff, you and your pet will help participants build employment readiness, interpersonal skills, and improve general well-being.
Are you interested but wondering whether your pet is suitable? Do you have a cat, rabbit, or other pet and wonder if they can be therapy animals? Contact Judith Harbour to discuss further.
Scholarships to train are available on a case-by-case basis.
Established teams are welcome to apply as well!
Volunteers will need to commit to a regular schedule of visits.
