Veteran Volunteers have a unique ability to support other Veterans who have a life limiting illness. Silverado Hospice Volunteers help to personalize, support and enhance quality of life for each patient and their families. Volunteers bring the gift of friendship, companionship and a healing presence to our patients through regular visits.

The goal of our Veterans Program is to match Veteran patients with a hospice trained Veteran Volunteer who may have similar military background. Our patient's are terminally ill and in their final stages of life. As a Hospice Volunteer you will be visiting patients in their own homes, Silverado communities or other facilities. You'll be assigned to a patient as close to your home as possible. We need volunteers who are willing to read to our patients, hold their hand, and learn life experience by listening to the narratives and histories of hospice patients.

Mission Statement

MISSION Silverado Hospice’s mission is to affirm the cycle of life by enhancing the quality of living for those at the end of life. The Silverado standard is to care compassionately for patients and their families and to empower those we serve to have quality of life options that afford them comfort and dignity.

Description

*We serve San Francisco and San Mateo Counties*

Silverado Hospice honors the value of each life by empowering the patient and family to make supported choices in end-of-life care, enhancing comfort, relieving suffering and supporting effective grieving.

We believe that Silverado Hospice patients have the right to continue life to the fullest extent possible according to their circumstances, and in fostering opportunities for growth and fulfillment. We further recognize a patient and their family’s decision-making rights in relation to continuing medical treatments as well as their right to withdraw treatment when its benefits are outweighed by their burdens.

At Silverado Hospice, we provide our staff with a well-organized, positive and motivating work environment that promotes their independence and decision-making at the lowest level practical. We value their input and provide them with extensive staff training and a competitive compensation package.

A maximum effectiveness and efficiency of services is maintained by staying on the leading edge of new research findings, participating with ongoing research projects, focusing on disease prevention and chronic disease management. Furthermore, Silverado will continuously develop new and innovative systems and techniques to prolong its patients’ ability to live a dignified life, relate to their family and meet the needs of our referral parties and staff by providing the highest quality cost-effective services to our patients on a day-to-day basis
