Saturday Academy Writer Volunteer

Position Summary: Saturday Academy Content Writing Volunteer works directly with our Communications Manager on all aspects pertaining to written content. We are looking for someone who can take initiative with minimal supervision, strong writing abilities, and a willingness to learn. Gain valuable experience in the realm of marketing, non-profit logistics, communications and capacity building for an educational non-profit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 1-2 hours of social media upkeep and maintenance
  • Crafting well written blog posts
  • Update and create content on main website

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Effective online research skills
  • Detail orientated
  • Proficient writing abilities in AP style
  • Must be 16 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity

Saturday Academy strives to engage all motivated young people, including those from under-represented communities, in hands-on, in-depth learning by connecting them to community experts as educators and mentors.

Description

The mission of Saturday Academy is to engage children through in-depth learning so they may become life-long learners. We provide hands-on classes and camps, afterschool programs, accelerated learning programs for talented and gifted students, and a high school apprenticeship program in science and engineering (ASE). Since it was founded in 1983, SA has served over 165,000 students and currently serves approximately 6,000 students each year. SA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Portland (UP). Instructors need to be experts in their fields so that children see adults as guides to learning and careers.
