Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Super Stars Literacy

Super Stars Literacy Students
Student from Vincent Academy at their End of Year Celebration to recognize their hard work and achievement.

We urgently need help to assemble school supply packets for the new school year. We provide aftershcool programming in Oakland in about 30 classrooms. We are assembling supplies into kits for our instructors to take to their classrooms for the first few weeks.

Come assist our Program Team in preparing materials for the new school year! We conduct an in school and after school literacy program. At the end of each school year our teachers return their supplies and we replenish damaged or missing supplies. Volunteers would help us sort games, school supplies and other program materials in an effort to package them together to make a mobile classroom.

We are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. You can come for a few hours just once and still be a tremendous help.

Mission Statement

When a child learns to read, they are empowered to transform their future.

Description

Because 3rd grade reading ability is such a strong predictor of high school graduation rates, Super Stars Literacy partners with schools in low-income communities to provide at-risk K-2nd grade students with comprehensive literacy intervention programming, helping them build the literacy and social skills that are the foundation for future learning. The SSL program consists of 1) daily after-school literacy and social-emotional skill developmet, 2) in-school reading support coordinated with the students' school-day teachers, and 3) family engagement activities designed to help parents support their child's reading development and connect families to the school.

We schedule one-time, team-building group volunteering activities as well! Please reach out to volunteer@superstarsliteracy.org for more information!
