Open Heart Kitchen, a recent recipient of the Pleasanton Community of Character award, is actively seeking new members to join our Board of Directors. We are looking for dedicated, collaborative individuals who are willing to assist Open Heart Kitchen as we approach our 22 nd year and beyond. Open Heart Kitchen has experienced significant growth in recent years and we have the opportunity to help many more people.

Since our beginning in 1995, we have grown from a small organization serving soup from the founder’s garage to one of the largest food providers in the Tri-Valley. In 2016, we served over 345,000 meals to people in need. We operate nine locations in addition to programs at 22 schools.

Description

Open Heart Kitchen's mission is "Equitable access to nutritious food today while building a food secure tomorrow." The work we do focuses on meeting immediate needs in the Tri-Valley, while also seeking ways to eliminate systematic inequalities leading to hunger in the first place. Our current programs include Senior Meals, Community Meals, Mobile Pop Up Pantries for grocery distribution, Street Outreach, and Open Heart Refuge.

Our guests come from all walks of life; the homeless, seniors on fi­xed incomes, the underemployed and many low-income families struggling to make ends meet. Open Heart Kitchen is their safety net against hunger.
