****The next training is scheduled for Thursday, September 14th 2017 4 - 6 pm at the Murphy Center!****

The Murphy Center for Hope and Homeless Gear are looking for community members interested in becoming Housing First Advocates for a brand new program, designed to help people experiencing homelessness in our community find affordable housing and gain self-sufficiency.

Volunteer teams of two will work with our Housing First Initiative Director, in conjunction with the person in need of housing, to create an "Action Plan." Volunteers will help with a "Hands-on Housing Search"- including internet searches for available housing, phone calls to potential landlords, assistance in obtaining necessary documents, and will provide encouragement and support to the person as they navigate the path to self-sufficiency.
Comprehensive training is provided, and Volunteers are backed-up at all times by the Housing First Initiative Director. Hours are flexible and would be approximately 1-5 hour per week, depending on your schedule.
This is a wonderful opportunity to provide tangible, effective assistance to some our community’s most vulnerable members, with long-lasting results. If you would like to be a part of this exciting and innovative project, please contact us.
