Friends Forever

One hour a week can change a life!

We have a current need for a friendly visitor in Skokie to visit an elderly woman in her 90s, who has lived in Skokie for over 60 years and loves talking about the old days and whats going on today. We also have seniors waiting in Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Wilmette, and Evanston.

Senior Connections, a program of SASI, is a friendly visiting program that matches isolated older adults with caring volunteers from the community. Our program has been making a difference in seniors' lives and fostering hundreds of friendships for over 27 years. Friendly visitors meet with their new friend weekly to go for walk, sit and talk, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea together, or even go out to eat or shopping.

All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application, attend a volunteer training at Skokie Public Library or SASI's office, provide personal references, and undergo a background check. The background check is provided by SASI. We encourage families, couples, friends, and even pets to volunteer together.

Once matched, an in-person introduction is made with a staff member to meet the senior and then the volunteer and senior decide the day and time to meet each week. Staff and additional training is available for ongoing support.
