Help spread the word about PHLpreK! PHLpreK is the City of Philadelphia’s free quality pre-K program. Quality pre-K is a proven equalizer which can increase graduation rates, reduce the need for support services in schools, and reduce the chances of a child needing to repeat a grade. Help Philadelphia’s parents learn about this amazing opportunity for their family and children.
Interested volunteers will need to commit to attending a volunteer orientation session. After completing orientation, volunteers have the opportunity to volunteer multiple times a month in 3 hour shifts.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Distributing PHLpreK promotional materials
Promoting PHLpreK around colleges campuses, schools, businesses and community events
Canvassing in the community to inform families of available PHLpreK slots.
Presenting at PHLpreK info sessions and PHLpreK provider open houses
Calling families
Other office duties as needed
Support from the Mayor’s Office of Education
Volunteers will work closely with and receive support from the Parent Engagement Coordinator VISTA. In addition to being a part of the PHLpreK initiative, volunteers will benefit from networking opportunities to develop and enhance professional skills. Volunteers are also eligible to be nominated for the Mayor's Service Recognition Award after a full year (or 100 hours) of service. The Mayor's Office of Education will provide a recommendation letter and certificate of service after 60 hours of service completed.
