Current: This Eritrean youth finished 11 th grade at Lighthouse Charter Academy. He rents a room in a house from a couple he knows from church. He goes to school full-time, works part-time, and enjoys staying active with his friends playing soccer. He has asked about having a mentor on multiple occasions. If he is matched with a mentor, it is anticipated that he will put significant effort into building and maintaining a positive relationship with his mentor.
Background: It is reported that his father is currently living in Saudi Arabia and his mother lives in Eritrea. He reports that his parents were poor and were unable to afford to send him and his brother to school. He reported that in Eritrea, if a child is not attending school they are often conscripted into the army, so he left Eritrea in 2011 without informing his mother and made his way to Ethiopia without any adult supervision to avoid being conscripted. He reports that he has had no contact with his mother since he left Eritrea to Ethiopia. After his arrival to Ethiopia in 2011, he lived in a fugee camp for four years.More opportunities with Bethany Christian Services
