Mission Statement
The mission of the Tim Griffith Memorial Foundation is to partner with agencies that deliver support services and education to those affected by violence, addiction and personal hardship.
Description
In September 2004, twenty-one year old Tim Griffith was killed in a senseless and devastating act of violence. Tim's mother, Stacey Redman, created the Tim Griffith Memorial Foundation in 2005 in an effort to carry Tim's memory forward, honoring his eternal spirit and light. The mission of TGMF is to offer healing, help, and hope to individuals, families and communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. In service of this mission, TGMF focuses its efforts on three distinct areas that touched Tim's life and the lives of those who loved him: grief support, substance abuse treatment, and the promotion of peaceful resolutions. As individuals touched by the sudden, violent loss of a child and friend, those involved with TGMF want to provide support and comfort to bereaved families experiencing similar circumstances. Through partnerships with professional grief counseling organizations and with the creation of our own program specifically for mothers who have suffered the sudden loss of a child, TGMF provides others with the opportunity to grieve, cope, and heal in the face of loss. While grief support aids the bereaved, TGMF is also dedicated to healing and helping those struggling in some of the same ways Tim struggled during his short life. As a young man, Tim battled drug addiction and substance abuse, and TGMF supports organizations that provide treatment for addiction and work with addicts to reclaim control over their lives. In our short 4 year history, TGMF has supported the Bridges Treatment Program by providing operational funding for Tim's House, a residential facility housing 5-6 young men successfully dealing with drug addiction. Tim's House is operated by the Service League of San Mateo, and while living in this clean, sober, and structured environment, young men work an evidence-based treatment program for addiction, rebuild their lives, acquire life skills, and find employment. Finally, as community members profoundly affected by the violent nature of Tim's death, we believe that violence can only be stopped through healing and the promotion of peaceful paths and solutions. This takes various forms and our goal is to invest in hope and healing work. We seek to stop violence through education, facilitation and resources allocation. The Foundation is developing and growing our goals around stopping violence in our communities. Where we can lend a hand, we want to, where we can change the devastating effect of violence, we will.
