Volunteering as a judge is a very meaningful way to get involved in our debate program. Judges play a critical role in helping to teach our students. Even if you have never judged a debate before you are welcomed to our events.

Debates are the core of what we do - we want to give every student we work with a chance to find their voice and express their opinion. Each debate needs a judge, and our average tournament has about 60 debates occurring at once - so we NEED a lot of volunteers who are willing to be respectful and encouraging listeners.

No experience is necessary - we host a brief on-site training in the morning and can send training resources via email. It takes about 30 minutes to get all the background information necessary to judge a debate.

About Dallas Urban Debate Alliance

Location:

Mission Statement

The mission of the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance is to build, support, and sustain competitive academic policy debate programs in every DISD high school, thus making policy debate an educational resource available to all students.

Description

The Dallas UDA has served more than one thousand students in four years. In the current school year alone, we will reach nearly 300 through debate tournaments, student and coach training sessions, and the nineteen sections of debate class currently provided in DISD high schools. From another perspective, the UDA provides an opportunity to participate in competitive debate programming to more than 10,000 low-income, minority, at-risk high school students who otherwise would not have that opportunity.
